Dining Room Wallpaper Research

The original dining room wallpaper was beyond restoration, but a small fragment gave us the historic basis for selecting the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Dining Room paper. The original was a machine print, dated 1880-1900, with a rich red and silver ground, perfect for the style-conscious middle class Hardie family. It was reproduced as a silkscreen by Scalamandre. An olive and crimson Schumacher border, a claret dado, and a Bradbury & Bradbury silver metallic ceiling and frieze complete the Victorian tripartite treatment.
